One of the most frustrating (for customers), and exciting (for us), aspects of building is that you can’t really appreciate the end result of all that money and effort until the final reveal…Until you dismantle the scaffolding, give the surroundings a proper clear up then take a step back to take a look at your handiwork. Our recently completed farmhouse extention in Lostwithiel was a perfect example of this. We were confident it was going to be good, but no matter how many times you do this, the unveiling is always a big surprise (in a good way).
The project doubled the size of the property. Using part oak frame, part softwood timber, there was a major element of restoration work, reliming the walls etc to ensure a graceful link between old and new. We loved working using traditional techniques whilst also marrying them with the new modern materials needed to extend the building – high performance frames, stonework and block work.
All this was topped with a reclaimed Delabole slate roof. The brief was to seamlessly extend the roof using original Delabole slates of a similar age. We’re pleased with the end result

You can’t tell where the old delabole slate roof ends and the new one starts – except on frosty days where the new roof is so well insulated it’s covered in frost, but the old roof has none.
What the clients thought
Doyle and Whitley have provided us with a reliable, professional and trustworthy service. Nothing we have asked for has ever felt like too much trouble and they took all of the stress out of the building process, particularly with taking on the overall management and coordination of the project in such a diligent and conscientious way. They have shown real personal interest in and commitment to making the project a success. The quality of their work and attention to detail is outstanding and we are very happy with the finished result. And to top it off, they are all really nice people (which was a very important factor for us, because we were living on site during the work). Highly recommended!
